The Story.
Nestled in the mountains just 15 minutes outside Livingston, The Outlaw Cabin holds a unique piece of history. Built during the Great Depression as part of a work program, it’s one of many structures originally designed as guest or forest service cabins for the iconic grounds surrounding Old Faithful Inn. Though its exact placement and use in that era remain a mystery, this particular cabin was saved from obscurity during auctions in the late '90s and early 2000s.
When the Cofers purchased the property, the prior owner hadn't used the cabin. Despite its age, the hand-hewn logs were in remarkable condition, standing as a testament to the craftsmanship of a bygone era. Breathing new life into it, the Cofers carefully restored and modernized the space while respecting its original charm. One of the unique touches is the bathroom, which they created from scratch—including a favorite feature, the vintage sink, a true treasure found at the local dump and traded for a piece of pottery.
Every detail of this cabin has been thoughtfully considered to balance its historic character with modern comfort. While the Cofers continue to search for photos and records of its past, the cabin’s spirit and story remain alive and well, ready to welcome guests.
